NMFC Updates Effective April 10, 2021

The National Motor Freight Classification (NMFC) has been updated with changes impacting LTL shippers. Changes were issued on March 11, 2021, with an effective date of April 10, 2021. Supplement 1 to NMF 100-AU Updates include, but are not limited to:

  1. Multiple Foodstuffs – The NMFC codes 72040, 72042, 722680, 73270 and 74800 are all canceled with reference to new item 73260, which is foodstuffs other than frozen such as bakery goods, coffee, tea or herbal tea, cookies, crackers and snack foods.  
  2. Stairs or Stairways, Ramps or Gangways, Chutes or Slides, Platforms or Stands, aircraft or marine, portable – These have changed to classes based on greatest dimension and density.
  3. Flat Glass, including Glass, silvered for mirrors The NMFC code 86900 will be canceled and modified to 7 density-based classes in each of the 2 groups based on the greatest dimension.
  4. Sneeze Guards – NMFC codes 82285 has changed to classes based on the greatest dimension and density.
